According to Wistia, video watch time has increased significantly in recent years. In 2023, video plays increased by 15% and watch time by 44%, showing the increase in engagement with video content.

For HR teams, Learning & Development (L&D) professionals, and training content creators, creating clear and engaging training videos is now a valuable skill.

In this guide, I’ll walk through simple steps to help you create training videos efficiently.

Choose the Right Video Editing Tool for Training Videos Creation:

To create training videos, you need a video editing app that is easy to use and helps you produce clean and professional content.

If you're creating training or onboarding videos, you can use beginner-friendly tools to quickly create videos, such as:

Movavi

CapCut

Clipchamp

These tools are user-friendly and suitable for creating training videos.

For more advanced projects, professional tools can be used, but they require more time to learn:

Adobe After Effects

DaVinci Resolve

Final Cut Pro

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the Movavi video editing app to help you create training videos.

Import Footage, Visuals, and Audio:

Start by importing all your content into the video editor.

This may include:

Footage

Images or icons

Video clips (if needed)

Voiceover audio

Click on “Add Files” to import your content into the editing panel.

That’s a standard interface of Movavi video editing app.

Here are the clips, imported on Movavi:

Set the Right Video Format:

Choosing the correct format ensures your training video looks professional.

16:9 (horizontal) → best for training videos, onboarding, and internal presentations videos

9:16 (vertical) → optional for short micro-learning content

You can adjust the format from the aspect ratio settings in your editor.

To determine aspect ratio, go to aspect ratio setting tab at the right-hand panel.

Trim or Split Video:

Drag your files to the timeline.

Play your video and:

Remove unnecessary parts. To cut a section of the video from the timeline, place the position marker at the point where you want to make a cut.

Cut long pauses

Keep the content clear and concise

Use the split tool to cut sections and delete unwanted parts. Go to toolbar and press split button. Then place the position marker at the ending part to cut out unnecessary part.

Press split button again and select the split part and press delete on the keyboard to delete a clip. You can see the split button in the below image.

Add Text and Captions:

Text and captions are very important in training videos.

They help:

Improve understanding

Highlight key points

Support non-native English speakers

To add text:

Click on the title tab on the left side of the panel.

Choose a suitable text style and drag-drop it into the timeline.

Under editing clip, select text tab.

You can edit text, change font style and size from here.

Add Transitions or Effects:

Transitions help move smoothly between clips.

However, for training videos:

Keep transitions simple

Avoid too many effects

Focus on clarity, not creativity

Select the transitions tab on the left side of the Movavi video editor. You will find the variety of transitions that you can add between the clips.

Just drag the desired transition between two clips, and it will automatically be added between the clip.

Add Visual Elements:

Instead of heavy effects, training videos benefit from simple visuals such as:

Icons

Highlights

Clean graphics

These elements make your content easier to understand without distracting the viewer.

Add Voiceover or Audio:

Voiceover is a key part of training videos.

You can:

Record your own voice

Use an existing audio file

To add audio:

Import your audio file

Drag it to the timeline

Adjust timing with visuals

Export Your Training Video:

Once everything is complete:

Review your video

Make final adjustments

Export in high quality (usually 1080p)

Conclusion:

Creating training videos doesn’t have to be complicated. By following these steps, you can produce clear and professional videos for onboarding, training, or internal communication.

Well-structured training videos can help teams and learners understand content faster, improve knowledge retention, and save time for organizations and businesses.

To improve your results, continue practicing and stay updated with new video creation techniques.
